Glasspack smoking

I have a 93 explorer that barely failed smog. I had cracked both heads so i replaced them both. The truck ran great after that but didnt pass. I put on new cats and 2 new oxygen sensors. i had a code saying the egr wasn't opening but i haven't replace that yet. after getting the new cat and the o2 sensors in there it runs like garbage. After the cats all i have is a glasspack. when i run the engine the glasspack gets hot and smokes. so my question is what would make the engine run bad and the make the glasspack get hot enough to smoke.

does the smoke come from inside of the exhaust, or the outside?

maybe the coating on the muffler is burning off.
maybe the gasket on the head leaked and your burning coolant? does the smoke have a sweet smell to it?

the outside of the glasspack is smoking. like it is getting to hot. there is no visable smoke from the exhaust itself.

It does seem like the caoting is burning off. but i have had this glasspack for about two years now and this has never happened. can you mix up the o2 sensor wires? will it make it run different?

My inclination is: Now that you have new CAT's on it that are working, it is heating the exhaust up enough to burn whatever is on the outside of the glasspack off.

Thanks for your input but the problem was i hooked up the oxygen sensors backwards.
