The heat's been pretty brutal here in Tucson, AZ the last several months and I've also got a garage project going on, so my '00 Mountaineer has been living outside. The other day, I noticed that the glovebox light was on despite it being shut. I ended up removing the interior power accessory 10A fuse, but I'd like to correct the situation properly. I have the 5000 page manual and couldn't find anything specific to the glovebox illumination itself. Since the lamp is functional, would it be safe to say that the switch has failed? Where exactly is the switch located?

The switch for the glove box lamp is made of plastic and the little arm tends to break off. It's located on the glove box latch and is activated by the glove box door. I've given up on replacing them and just removed the bulb. Who really needs a stupid light in the glove box anyway?

This is true, although I think even my old '89 Mustang has a glovebox light that still works. Granted, it doesn't sit out in the sun and go offroad like the Mountaineer.

Seems like you should see it if you pull the glovebox out? Yes it's almost certain to be the switch, or the way automakers do it, some part of the mechanism that switch is integrated into. Heh, it'd cost them a dollar more to make a separate mechanism that uses a standard off the shelf switch.

Thank you for supplying detailed wiring diagrams.
