Hey All,

Im going to change the oil in my rear differential this weekend and was wondering if anyone "rinses" the housing out with anything or just drop the fluid and refill. i've already got the oil, xl3 additive and a pump.

Thanks for replies.

Just drain it and refill it. The problem with "rinsing" is that whatever you rinse it with you have to then rinse out. Can't be good.

Some use brake cleaner or solvents and others are against using anything near rubber.
Read the precautions on the can first. Either way, be prepared for a very messy and
smelly job, but your diffy will be happy for many miles. Also check the axle vent tube.

Yea im just going to drop old fluid and replace with new. If i could get the cover off i would clean it up real good but since thats a completely different job im not going to that much trouble.

Like one of my friends says " Good enough for the girls i go out with"

i wouldn't suggest using brake cleaner or any cleaning solvents on it

Drained fluid, found some small metal shavings so pumped a quart of atf through it to get them all out the best i could and then let that drain the rest of the way out. the old fluid was black and gross but did not smell anywhere near as bad as the new friction modifier i put in so im thinking there was not any friction modifier in it. Does not bind as bad as it did and seems to be getting better each day.
