i have done some thinking on either swaping a 5.0 or rebuilding 4.0. and i have decided to get another 4.0ohv to do a complete rebuild. and i would like some opinions on what i should do. i will be getting the motor in about a week.

here is some of the stuff i have in mind.

Oversized Pistons from summit
Camshaft from summit compcams has the same one but summit has better price
Lifters not sure which ones i should go with? was thinking of the sealed power
Valve Springs im not sure if these would work but i would like to use them if they would

this is all i have looked into this far, i am wondering where i could find a good set of valves, push rods, connecting rods, and also what are some good heads to use from another year or v6 or a website the sells some good aftermarket head.

i will be buying aftermarket headers and i would like to do a 2.5" dual straight back exhaust if possible. with 40 series mufflers and high flow cats. maybe put and X pipe in the middle for a little more back pressure.

another thing im wondering about is how strong are the M5OD-R1 trans? and i was wondering if the M5OD-R2 would mount up or not. or what i can do to beef it up since i need to rebuild the one that i have right now anyways. or any other options out there?

I know some will say why waste your money of rebuilding the ohv, just swap in the 5.0 or the sohc and call it good, i am wanting to do something a little different.

i have a 91 xlt 4 door 5speed 2wheel drive

help and suggestions on the motor build please. also keep in mind i have never torn into a 4.0 myself i have torn apart and rebuilt 4 cylinder import motor and Chevy 350's

Why not go for a 4.0 SOHC?

EDIT: Oh, I see - you're one of those "non-conformists". :P

lol yea you can call it that.

even if i went with the sohc i would still rebuild it completely so ill just save the time and pain in havin to find a computer and wiring harness etc.

Some guy converted a 4.0 Cologne engine (OHV and SOHC are Colognes) to a 32v Cosworth engine. I think that'd be very cool in an Explorer.

il have to look into that. see if i can find anything on it.
