ok, I am gonna try and rebuild my 4r55e myself. How hard is it?? (lol) I have rebuilt motors and worked on cars and trucks all my life but I have never tried a transmission. Furthest I have gotten into a trans is changing the filter. I think I can do it if the book gives good instructions. What book should I get? What special tool do I need? Where is a good place to get the rebuild kit from? what kit should I get? Should I put any performance parts in and if so what? I want it to be tough but not overboard. Im not gonna lift it or anything but it will be used off road and tow a trailer. The trans will not go in forward gears but reverse works fine. The fluid smelt BURNT bad so I think the bands are burnt. I put a filter in and and no change. I planed on doing a pressure test but I am pretty sure its burnt up so I am just figuring on rebuilding it. Any help would be greatly appreciated for I cant afford to have it done and I don't wanna buy a used one or someone else s problem. Thanks
