I just bought a 1994 Explorer XLT with 127,000 miles on it. It is black, very little rust, runs very smooth and great. A/C works. Very clean, and I recieved all of the service records. Well maintained. 2 owners. No leaking. I bought it for 2000 dollars a coulple months ago. Do you think that I got a good deal?

yup

Good is right!!

Now, get back to fixing:

IMHO, may I suggest a complete tune up. Include the: air filter, motor flush and re-fill w/oil and new filter, fuel filter, pcv, cooling system flush and re-fill w/ new coolant, plugs and wires, run some sea foam, and don't forget the fuel system cleaner added to the fuel.

Clean the MAF and IAC……it’s a little more involved:

TPS adjustment:

3 tests you should do to see if it's all set up perfectly:

1) with engine off, take off intake tube so that you can look into the TB. Have an assistant push the gas pedal all the way to the floor. Observe the butterfly in the TB--with the gas pedal floored, the TB butterfly should be fully open. If it's not, you'll want to take some slack out of the throttle cable (do a search for zip-tie mod for more info).

2) calibrate the TB to the IAC--unplug IAC. Truck should be able to hold an idle of 500 rpm with IAC unplugged. If it can't, then turn the throttle set screw on the TB wing until the truck does idle at 500 rpm. Your target idle for our 4.0 OHV's should be 650-ish with the IAC plugged in. Adjust set screw until you achieve this.

3) Finally, JamesT's infamous TPS calibration thread:

Check for codes. Get a “base” to work off of…….

IF you feel energetic.......trans oil/filter, fluids for the transfer case, frt diff. and rear diff. Expand that to: a check of the brakes, bearings, trans mounts, motor mounts, shocks and RAB (for the 1 Gen Explorer). Anything else....feel free to, "just do it."

Aloha, Mark

PS................take off all of the wheels and check the spare...........when putting the wheels back onto the studs..........I use anti-seize on the studs and hand torque the nuts.........some folks do and some don't, that's your call. All Lawyer Type Warnings Apply.
