Good replacement door lock actuators

I am going to replace all 5 door lock acuators in my 2000 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer.

There are NUMEROUS brands, prices, and warranty periods available online, and I want to conserve money yet avoid low quality. Can someone recommend a brand either online or at a popular cart parts store to meet that criteria?

Also, pictures online make the cargo door actuator appear to be the same as a normal door actuator, but some people say they are differnet due to the force required to lock/unlock those different doors. Do you know if the are the same or different?

I would consider replacing them as you need to. I’ve only had one fail, and I replaced it with a junkyard unit.

I turned off Auto-Lock so they are not constantly being used for no reason…

First of all, why are you replacing? In many cases, weak actuators are the result of wiring issues like corroded factory splices. My one truck has 342,000mi and original actuators. The OEM ones are very robust.

I too would just replace them as they fail.

That's a good idea I didn't even know about. How do you turn off auto-lock?

My Explorer is over 20 eyars old and each actuator has eventually failed and been replaced at various times by ones bought online. Along the way wiring and connections have also been repaired or replaced. I first posted because the replacements have been of low quality and have also failed and again needed replacement. I know OEM actuators are dependable and last, but they're quite expensive; thus I posted to this forum for recommendations. I want to get a set of actuators that work well and last a long time so I don't have to keep tearing open my doors and wasting time.

How can I disable auto lock on 1996 5.0L XLT?

My 2nd, 2nd Explorer is the 96'. It auto locks every time it moves forward or reverse. Can't find anything in my 98's manual about it and it does not have that "feature". Any chance anyone knows how to disable it? Quick search didn't find anything.

Good idea, I guess I should find out what recent years and models use the same actuaters and go to a junk yard.

Careful to not tear the rubber cover. Get the linkage as well, since it should be probably free…
