So tonight I went to Princess Auto and got a code reader for $40 bucks. Works great. In the parking lot I checked out all of the codes and came up with the following 8 codes:

P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 System too Lean (Bank 2)
P1130 Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Adaptive Fuel Limit - Bank No. 1
P1131 Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1

I am guessing, after reading the description of the first code which is below is why most of the other codes are popping up. What do you lads think?

What does that mean?
The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP) allows fumes from the gas tank to enter the engine to be burned, rather than vented into the atmosphere as an emission. The purge valve solenoid is supplied switched battery voltage. The ECM controls the valve by operating the ground circuit, opening the purge valve at specific times allowing these gasses to enter the engine. The ECM monitors the ground circuit as well, watching for faults. When the purge solenoid isn't activated, the ECM should see a high voltage on the ground circuit. When the solenoid is activated, the ECM should see the ground voltage pulled low, close to zero. If the ECM doesn't see these expected voltages, or senses an open in the circuit, this code is set.
Potential Symptoms

P0443 trouble code symptoms could be just an malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination. There may be no drivability problems at all. But, it's also possible to have a lean condition or a rough running engine if the purge valve is stuck open. Usually though, these symptoms are accompanied by other EVAP codes. Another symptom may be excessive pressure in the gas tank in the form of a "whooshing" sound when the cap is removed, indicating a purge valve that isn't working at all or stuck closed.
Causes

To cause a P0443, there has to be a problem with the purge control CIRCUIT, not necessarily the valve. Usually they are a unit housing the valve and the solenoid as an assembly. Or it could be comprised of a separate solenoid with vacuum lines to a purge valve. That said, it could be any of the following:

* Bad purge solenoid (internal short or open)
* Wiring harness chafing or rubbing another component causing short or open on control circuit
* Connector worn, broken or shorted due to water intrusion
* Driver circuit inside powertrain control module (PCM) is bad

...I believe it's telling you that you need a solenoid purge valve....They are known to become "sticky" and I have had damaged wires on them before but it usually needs the SPV replaced...

Thats what I figured. Is there a write up about changing it? I am going to search right now but just incase.

I saw this happen in a recent thread. 410Fortune said that all of these items share the same plug on the wiring harness. The guy checked his harness, and found part of the O2 sensor's wiring melted against the catalytic converter, and was shorted. The insulation melted. Check a wiring diagram for your vehicle year just to be sure. You could also check the wiring on the O2 sensor.

tell me the item # of the code reader that you got!!!!!! i want to get one from there now. oh yea, please.

its the CAN obdII scan tool GS300 by GENISCAN. Thats all I have for you. No product code on the box.

Princess Auto is basically a Winners for Men

Yep. Princess has them on sale this week for $39 IIRC. I was going to grab one. It's a really good deal for a have way decent OBDII reader. PLUS I get 20% discount from my lil sweetie that works there ;)

I've aready told my daughter when it is time for her to find a job, I help her get one there. That would be a fathers dream!

HAHA nice. I just went and bought the code reader today. Plugged it in in the parking lot and got 6 codes right off the bat. Love it. You can delete codes, rescan, check vin numbers off of 2002+ vehicles and do dianostics check.

I love going to this store, but I wouldn't buy anything that I would use regularly (hand/ power tools that is). Alot of junk there but if you need a odd size socket you need only the one time, they're certainly priced low. I drive my wife nuts as I sit there like I did when I was a kid with the Canadian Tire catalog and circle the items I really really want for Cristmas! :D

haha okay okay princess auto is the shizzznet...no back to my problem hijackers. Does anyone know any ways to test or make sure that this valve purge is the problem? Its -30 here and I don't really feel like laying in the snow and poking around at stuff I dont have to.

HEHEHE, sorry about that, just the mention of that store makes me :bounce:

I checked for a melted o2 harness but couldnt see anything, so I went shopping around Edmonton looking for the purge solenoid. Is that what it is called? Because I have read about people buying them for 17 bucks or so on here and the guy that came the closest to even knowing what it was said it would be about 160 but they didn't have any in there system. Its going for its out of province inspection tomorrow so I am going to see if that guy can locate one for a cheap price for me. I just want to be sure that is the same thing as stated above that is known to stick. It is the purge valve solenoid right.
