oh man where do I start....LOL

ok basic info first...

1993 Explorer Eddie Bauer 105K miles.
Originally Red, then Blue, now fading and beginning to chip back to red lol

Heres a list of all the problems I know of so far...

  1. Hood needs replacing
  2. Rear hatch is dented
  3. AC needs recharging
  4. Fuel Guage doesnt work
  5. Starter or cable to starter needs replacing
  6. passenger window needs window guides
  7. rear passenger window needs new window motor
  8. Sunroof is leaky, needs new seal
  9. carpets are stained and moldy from leaky sunroof, lol
  10. drivers seat is torn apart, all other seats are perfect
  11. needs new wheel bearings

boy it almost seems like I should just give it back lol.

If anyone has any links or write-ups for ANY of these problems, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks guys! :salute:

There is a great write up with pics for the Window Motor. Its usually from the plastic bearings crumbling. It helped me a lot. The search feature is your best friend here. Most people have experienced the same problems.

My fuel guage in both my Explorers crapped itself. Musst be a frist gen jewl :P

heh my fuel gauge was fine, till i changed the fuel pump/sending unit

The floats get holes in them. Thats one thing on my to do list. Its at the bottom of the list though.

ok well last night, i changed the power wire between the battery and the starter, that works fine now. Its always that damn cable for us 1st gen guys!
I also sealed up the sunroof too, so thats done for now. I also tested the rear passenger window motor, motor works, just needs bushings replaced.

tonight, I'm replacing the wheel bearings and seals :)

ok I replaced the bearings and seals, only the bearing though, not the races :( couldnt get them out.

but i still have the problem, i think its some this bearing in the spindle.

Can anyone tell me what this thunk sound is from my front end. it only happens when the wheel is straightening out from a turn, left, right, doesnt matter. any ideas?

Have you checked out the ball joint, tie rod ends and radius arm bushings?

Thunk is probably the radius arm bushings. Regarding the AC, if you have to replace any components, considering converting to R134. R12 is just too expensive at this point, and you need to be licensed to buy it.

is there a writeup on how to replace the radius arm bushing?

ok well after downloading the Ford Service Manual program, everything just got A LOT easier.

Nothing really major in your list of things that you have to do. It could have been Engine-Trannie problems.
I assume you knew of these problems before you bought it.
Seat covers or a new seat from the salvage yard.
