No Ex at the mo
Well my ex has been a little neglected recently as it has been running and working well and i have been fettling the mr2.
A couple of months ago the rear most hanger for the exhaust snapped off due to corrosion so i just temporarily held it up with a coat hanger :D
It already had one of the front hangers missing and a couple of pin holes so i decided to buy a new one. I got me an ebay cheapy which, when it came didn't look too bad appart from some tooling marks on a couple of the bends.

Now knowing how exhausts can often rust at the welds at the boxes i decided to spray the whole thing with some vht to hopefully increase its life.

This morning i decided it was about time i fitted it. I went to get the old one off and surprise, surprise the U clamp broke. No problem, 84p bought me a shiny new one. Then went to remove the old exhaust and found i needed a little more room. So jacked up the rear (front chocked) and that almost gave me the angle but the rear droplink was in the way. Looking at the droplink lower nut i thought i would be in trouble but with a wire brushing and some good penetrant and off it came.
The new one went in easily and all the curves and hangers were in the right place. Came to bolt up the flanges on the flared join and one of the old bolts stripped and the nut with the tab was a little mangled. So had a dig around and found a suitable m10x1.5 bolt but didn't have a nut to fit so i retapped the original nut. I know i could have popped out and got 2 new stainless bolts and nuts but where's the fun in that.

All back together and no rattles or blows. JD

I also knocked one of the terminals off the rear window for the demister so i bought (again some months ago) some silvered conductive adhesive. Quick sand and wipe with contact cleaner, then applied plenty of the stuff and used masking tape to hold it in place.
I can't comment on how well it has stuck or whether it will work as i have left it to cure, so i will know tommorrow

Just gotta do;
Front droplink (doesn't need doing but got it when i did the other one so may as well)
Front o/s hub (slight noise so not urgent but i can hear it!)

Now i just gotta finish my mr2

Regards all

Sonds like you managed to get the job sorted nicely. I take it you are more than happy with your eBay exhaust then? Glad you got it all fitted in the end. I'm not sure I'm as brave as some of you when it comes to working on my Ex. but your experiences shared give me hope!

Looking forward to some pictures mate. Hope the weather holds for you as tackle the other jobs. All the best!

hey Jano,

Got a rough estimate of the cost of the exhaust? And how much did you replace?

This is the one i bought. What you see in the pic is what you get. It goes from the rear of the cats back to the tail pipe. This ad shows 129.99 but i paid 128.23 or something like that. And free postage! came within 2 days ie i ordered fri and got monday.

EDIT Ebay exhaust

sorted, sorry

hi jan
do you know which delivery company delived it as i have one here that is only 2 months old and want to find a delivery price for it .
cheers chris

Sorry Chris but i didn't pay attension to that and all the labels etc are in my garage in wigston but i am home in town. You could ring the ebay company and ask as they were really friendly and helpful when i rang to confirm fitment etc.

Alternatively if you google it you will find a specialist. I looked a little while back and found someone that specialises in exhausts upto a certain lenght for something like £6 and longer ones for £9.99. It may have been paisley freight.

And sorry i didn't think to ask you if you had any good used ones

Hi Jan. Did the conductive adhesive work on the heated rear window contacts? What did you use and where from? I have the same problem. Thanks. GRoB

Hi grob
No it didn't work but the terminal was bent and i left it attached to the cable so it pulled it away. Not got around to doing it properly.
This is the stuff i bought and the seller.

Cheers Jan. I'll give it a go too.
