So I ordered my new belt tensioner a few days ago, picked it up today at AutoZone, got home tonight, put it on, which was very nifty, had a pin in it to hold it loose, so you could get the belt on with your hands, but kinda snug so it wouldnt fall off the pulleys, then once you got it on all straight, get your ratchet, and twist it about 1/2 a centimeter, pop this pin out, then it was tightttt like new again :D

I was so happy, basically finally done working on her, besides a new PS pump soon, which you'll see why I need a new one here in the video.

So I start her up, yeahhhh no lights woo-hoo! WRONG, the CEL comes on about 20 seconds later, and stays on now, idk WHY it would come on, but I unhooked the battery for the night, I am ready for some sleep, it was like 2am when I was out working on it.
So then, I pressed the OD OFF button, nothing happened, put it in drive, still nothing (as in the OD OFF light coming on, it engaged in drive and reverse just fine) so i was like wtf, so then I remembered the dash is still half apart lol, so no headlight/dimmer switch, no rear wiper, fog, etc, and then no 4x4 switch, so I plugged all those in real quick, then started it up again, the OD light comes on and off just fine now, with the button, 4x4 auto is good, but now putting it in 4x4 low, it engages, but makes the loudest biggest CLUNK ever, the video doesnt make it sound too bad, but it literally jerks the whole explorer from a stand still when I engage it...

videos: (CEL light, and then the PS pump, listen when im turning the wheel)

(4x4 engaging, and clunks)

(The vids may not be availible as soon as I post this, as theyre still uploading right now, so keep refreshing!)

the clunking sounds normal to me. It's supposed to clunk a little when engaging in 4lo. You might need to drain and refill your tansfercase. Its really easy. all you need is a 3/8 ratchet and 2 qts of transmission fluid.

Yeah, I was also gonna try to find out how to drain and flush all that, ive never done my own fluids, but from what ive seen and read, its gotta be easy as hell, so yeah lol

4x4 sounds normal to me. PS pump is a bit loud - not too bad though. It's normal for it to make more noise if you turn the wheel when the truck is not moving (actually you shouldn't do that anyway since it puts a lot of stress on the system).

If the check engine light is still on after making sure everything is connected (and disconnecting the batt for a while), then get the codes read at Autozone or somewhere.

Yeah, its still just as loud though when your driving, but now, im regretting dis-connecting the battery, I let it sit like that all night, and this morning connected it again, now everythings good, well still CEL is on, but like the parking lights stay on sometimes, then sometimes its the headlights too, then sometimes its JUST the gauge lights and ac controls but all the switches are off, even the DRL is off, so I had to disconnect the battery again cus I left, and came back home tonight and the pk. lights were on, then disconnecting the battery for a sec got them to shut off, but when i re connected, the gauge lights stay on...

You need to get this rig checked out ASAP!

You have some electrical problems that do not sound healthy at all!

Bring it in for a professional look over. Someone you can trust, because these types of problems are a pot of gold to some shops.

Sounds like your computer has issues, but a bad ground could be the culprit as well.

Either way, don't take chances. Get-er-done!

but now, im regretting dis-connecting the battery

Disconnecting the battery shouldn't cause any problems like you described. Since you had the dash apart, I think you should check all that wiring - sounds like a loose or frayed wire is touching something it shouldn't be...

Do you have wiring diagrams, etc. for the truck? If not than an ISO of the CD is available at http://www24.brinkster.com/sdhartney/linc/linc.htm

Go through the lighting circuit(s) and check the grounds, switch connections, etc. and I bet you'll fine the culprit!

As for the CEL, that will require a code reader to find out what's causing it to be on...

Thanks for the link lol but the lights were stayin on from the mirror I guess, I unplugged the mirror, and cleaned the connections and now its all good again :D
