One day you'll learn about treading lightly, responsible four-wheeling, and that four-wheeling can be more than just splashing through mud puddles but truly enjoying and preserving our natural resources... and then I will worry when your explorer breaks down... until then, it's natures way of fighting back.

yea i would have to agree with roadrunner..damange fron the explorer min...damange from the bulldozer overkill

You do realize the pictures are not from backfrcolorado, right? I think you might have misread a post somewhere along the way. The guy that got stuck, the pictures are from StryctNy9e.

lol thank you for clearing it up. i was a littlel confused on why he said that about mine. I know my trucks not set up for off-roading and yes it is street tires. Let me clear some thing up on my recent posts.

THE LAST FEW POST'S ON THE "BACKFRMCOLORADO" NAME WAS NOT FROM ME. I let my brother-in-law that was new to owning a Explorer try it out on my account befor he tried his own account. VERY SORRY FOR HIS RUDENESS. All my info may be changed soon due to his actions. I dont want a bad rep for something that was said by someone else on my name. It has been done by him befor on this name as well to other threads. SORRY TO ALL THAT HAVE BEEN OFFENED. I honestly cant say anything on this current thread post other than truely sorry. I have the upmost respect for the wilderness and dont even wheel my Explorer. Again to everyone im sorry.

Instead of changing your info and such, why don't you just delete the posts made by your brother-in-law? That way you don't have to start all over again with a new account and user name. Your username is a familiar one here, and you don't want to start all your posts with "I used to be backfrmcolorado".

That sound's like a plan mate, great avatar too Sir!:thumbsup:

Thanks guys....i really apreciate your understanding on this matter. I honestly didnt know i was well known. It just makes me so mad that someone who i thought was family would do that to me and my extended family here. I feel like his past posts have given me a bad rep and name.

I know that my explorer is ill equipped for off roading and i am working twoards fixing her up so I can 4 wheel the right way. Also on that day I just planned to go out target shooting in the forest and got in over my haed. This is the reason that I joined this site to give me more knowlege of my vehicle and how to off road properly. I already gained lots of knowlege through my experince and from the members on this site and want to thank everyone for their imput. I know this is the first of bad situations that I will be in and it wont be the last. I have already bought shackles for the ex and working on finding some coil seats/ add a leafs for a starter lift. I am going to do a body lift and some mud terrains in the near future. once arain thanks for the support.

I also am sorry for mistaking you for some one other and do apologies for that my self.

I also respect nature and privet property. I also believe in not harming any thing be it trees, rocks, chipmunks or what ever. When I leave an area all I want to leave behind are my tire tracks. As for the rest they did not help me get stuck so why should they be harmed in getting me out because I was not prepared to help my self? Going offloading alone and with an ill prepared rig is just asking for trouble I believe.
I also believe that just because some one other did some damage it dose not give me the right to join in that damage. Take this mud pit and how some say the loggers did the most damage. well that may be true but that still dose not give any one the right to add to it no matter how little it may be . Also dose any one know if they put that pit there to try and keep out 4x4 people? I bet no one knows that. In Oregon that kind of pit is normally used for that very reason. The loggers get tiered of the vandalism and theft so they dig these to try and stop some of it. I also know that in an active logging area you can be busted for trespassing even if no one is there logging that day. Even in a public forest a logging company buys the trees and the use of the land and have the right to close it off to the public use when they are active logging for the public’s safety and there own. Yes I have known some loggers in the SE part of Oregon and even a few here in Calif. And it is why I have gained some knowledge of how they do things and why.

all a good start point but a good one to also learn from is find a local offloading club and join them and better yet see if there is a group of extreme explorer people in your area and go out with them as then not only will you learn the right way to wheel but it will be in and with other explorer people. Now no argument here but I never have been a fan of body lifts my self always preferring suspension lifts over them. as for tires I normally run the most aggressive I think I will need on a normal average and even then I buy the first set as 5 so that my spare is the same and if I change sizes or other things with them it also means I change that spare also.. (Wink Wink spares also work for driving out of mud holes at times and not because of a flat if ya know what I mean) so keep learning as even after doing this for years I am still learning all the time .

Given that it's better to pull it out the way it went in, rather than through the puddle, as previously mentioned, why not use the tow hitch?

That’s how I was shown to do things if and when I got stuck. Having a frame hitch and a pin is one strong pulling point also. Also that hitch makes a good jacking point to lift a truck from with a high lift and then push it side ways and off the lift to de high center your self at times.

I still cant seem to find out what the knocking noise is on the x. The idled pully is squeeling bad and im gonna replace it on monday. Now thai I recall the incident, the truck died after entering the puddle, I let her sit for a few miniutes and when I started it back up that is when the knocking started. I tried the screwdriver to ear but i dint think my ear is tuned to figure out where the noise is coming from. Checked the fan blades and no hang ups there also visually and phisically examined the exhaust manifold and no leaks/ nothing is loose. Would the comperssion in the cylinders change if I bent a connecting rod/failed a bearing? My ex still runs strong and the only thing ive noticed was a slight difference in fuel consumption. I also cleaned the 4wd motor and put it back together and 4wd hi/low now work again. Any suggestions will be valubale. I will try to get some adio off my camera of the engine. Thanks

audio/video would be helpful yes.

whats the oil look like? Drain a little into a clean pan and inspect it. Smell it. swirl it around and see if you see an over abundance of suspended metal particles and note what color they appear to be.

Other things that Ive found that can sound a little like rod knock: loose balancer/worn keyway, broken flex plate, torn accessory belt, and a bad bearing in a rotating assembly (alternator, power steering pump, etc.). A cracked exhaust manifold is a stretch but might sound a little "knockish".

sounds like classic rod knock to me. Pull your plug wires one by one and see if the noise goes away or is greatly diminished and you will know which rod it is.
If that doesnt reveal any answers, it still could be a broken flex plate though.

Thats part of why I dont off-road anymore, I just cant afford to break something right now.

I have to say sounds like rod knock to me also!

Short story here about blasting threw a mud hole. I used to do it my self then on time after having some fun and driving all week I forgot about washing out the cooling system from all the mud in the fins. Well on a 106 deg day headed out for a weekend in the hills the truck started to run hot so pulled into a gas station. Now this is when they were first starting to go to pay for water here. well the darn thing only took tokens so I went inside got some only to find out the thing was broken .grrrr well needles to say the truck was not all that was hot by then. Well I ask for my money back and he refused well I said a few things he said some back and soon to young bulls locked horns. Well I backed off and went to leave and he came flying out after me saying I tried to rob him well I spun right there. Stopped him cold with a few words and a look my kids saw is dad is mad and your dead look. Well I did leave only to be pulled over later and arrested for assault and battery some how the fool broke his arm. So back at the station we went the cop talked to me then talked to him came back took the cuffs off me and arrested him. He told the cops I threw a magazine rack at him but the cop saw it was still bolted down! Moral of the story it all could have been avoided had I down two things
1) Not blasted threw the mud
Or
2) Washed the mud as soon as I got home tiered or not.
O I still go off-road but now I walk threw mud holes instead of bash and break threw them.

yea!
I used to do it in my two wheel drive chebbie. it would flop right in and give the guys something to pull out all the time! LOL
