Has anyone had any experience with a GPS blue tooth receivers? I own a Tmobile Dash and found a program that you can run GPS on your cell phone via a blue tooth GPS receiver and was wondering if it was even worth my time. The receiver cost anywhere from $21 to $180 on ebay and comes with the software to install on the phone. Its cheaper than a GPS unit and seems a lot more convenient, but who knows???

Here are the item #s to some if anyone is interested

I have a garmin gps reciever that is on ebay commonly for around 100.00 that has bluetooth and a very very loud speaker and excellent microphone. I will get you the numbers in the morning when I go to the garage

I have a Garmin 660 with blue tooth and its great.. You can make and receive calls right through the GPS and when searching through the database you can simply touch the phone icon to dial an entry. I have friends with mobile devices (palms, blackbery's etc) and the NAV works, but they all indicate that for use in a vehicle a std GPS receiver is the way to go especially if the device was just a mobile phone. GPS receivers have large touch screens with easy user interfaces designed for Navigation.

I have a Palm750 WM phone with Garmin PDA software - Garmin Mobile 10
It rocks.
I have unlimited Data on the phone, with internet. Beside the great routing, I can download real time traffic, Gas prices, hotels, - anything, it has all of the features of the $800 high end Garmin Nuvi's, but i only paid $100. Another feature i haven’t used is peer points, i can buy the same software for my wife, and we can find each other location on the map. Any questions let me, know, i have had it for 2 yrs now.

On a side note i started with a Garmins GPS12 over 10 years ago, have owned several garmins and other units in that time, this is the best and cheapest by far.

I'll try and post a pic in a bit of the maps.

here are some screen shots . . .

Diego buy one and try it and then let me know :D, I saw those too and was tempted to buy the $30 one, but money is really tight right now to be experimenting with something that I don't know if it's gonna work

Yeah I have windows live search and the garmin program already downloaded on my phone, so now i just need to get the receiver. I seen the pharos one and thinking about getting it. The only one for garmin I could find on eBay was Garmin 20 but I can find if its compatible with my phone.

Yeah I am going to just go the cheap road and try not to spend over 60 on this thing. I will let you know which one I get and how well it works. BTW what kind of phone do you have? I have the Dash and pretty pissed they would make such and amazing phone and not put a GPS receiver in it.

I have a nokia E65, which was due for a change like 6 months ago, not sure what to get now, I was thinking of N95 8G, or a blackberry still undecided...

Yeah I need a change too... I say go with the N95 I have been looking at them for a while. I kinda like that new HTC G1 though. Either phone and i wouldnt even need to worry bout the receiver lol

If any one is intrested in playing around, i did find my generic GPS Reciver, Blue Tooth, 32Channels, WAAS. I used it with Delorme Streets, it runs as a Com Port on my old Palm650. I paid like $65 for it, if anyone wants it for $30+shipping PM me. In the box, used it for a month or two. Just taking up shelf space now.

I didn't like the softare so i went with Garmin XT softare, imho best GPS softare out there but it is LOCKED to their brand of GPS and it knows the serial number of the unit.

Do you know if it would work for my Tmobile Dash??? Im pretty sure they are universal though. I was thinking of just running google maps as my software unless anyone knows something better to run seeing how it is free. What would shipping charges be to AZ?

It should work, its BlueTooth 1.1. Here is a pic of the unit. Worked great with my 650, and i also fired it up and added it to my Palm750. The unit worked fine, but i didnt like the software. here is a pic of the box. Shipping is like $5 to ASU (went to school there). If intrested $35 shipped.
