I found it! I had a automotive shop so a color spectral anylisis on my rear bumper. The exact match to the trim paint used on Sports is code 84/7782/L-12 this is for Du Pont Chromabase paint.

Interestingly enough, its actually meant for an 88 GM truck... all the ford trim matches were spit out.

total cost for a pint of paint and thiner (for airbrushing) was $45

Thanks for that info. Is this the same paint used on the fender flares?

exact same paint as on the fender flares. although it prolly has a flex agent added. it covers all of the following: Front bumper, rear bumper, flares, under door trim, nerfs. the nerfs are 1/3 shade more purple. most wont notice, but i happen to be a bit blue-orange color blind and can see a small difference. if airbrushed, the difference is un noticable even to the spectral anylisis we tried.

84/7782/L-12

Which one is the code? Is all of it the code? Where can i get paint with this code cus i want to repaint my bumper?

Ok this does not match the fender flares for pre 98 explorer sports. I just got a can and it is way too dark. Any other suggestions.

i matched it with my 98, and a friend's 97 (i beleive the only other year that this trim was available was on the 95 "explorer expedition") I talked to a few guys at ford. there were two silver trims available, but only the darker was used on the sport (suposedly).

since i have matched all the sports around here with the paint, do you think that they could have a lighter trim color for the black sports? the ones i tested were vermilion and that popy-seed metalic red-orange.

i haven't painted anything as of yet. i just had all 4 wisdom teeth out so i sed it as an excuse to take a few days off and visit my girlfriend. my truck is in for service and will have the nerf bard removed. when i get back i plan on rebuilding them. i'll do another round of paint matching just to make sure.

Hmm. I just remember seeing that the 98 had a darker silver. If you look at my pictures, you can see that the silver is much lighter. I don't know wat it is. But yeah i believe it is the same color as the 95 explorer expeditions.

this maked no sence... my friend's sport is a 97, same as yours... shoulden't they have matching trim?

So this color matched his trim also?? If it did then maybe I got the wrong paint. I got gunmetal metallic from pepboys but wasn't sure if it was the right number. When emailing paintscratch the said this

We list this color under:

1988 Chevrolet Nova
Gunmetal Metallic Clearcoat 84U/WA7782

Does that sound right?

Which paint code?

Did any of you guys figure out if there is two different colors of gray trim? I parked my 97 red sport beside a 99-00 green sport and I swear the trim was darker. Does anyone now the paint code for the lighter gray?

I actually found a pretty close match that is sold at autozone. It is called signet silver. THis is what i use now to paint my prerunner bumpers. Click on my link to see how close it matches.
