Lately my x has been making a grind noise when I am goin slow. I here it most when I am off road and it also makes a bang when I come to a stop that I can feel in the floorboards, kinda like a pop but it is more felt than heard. I pulled out the rearend this last weekend and that is fine. Also has new U joints... any ideas? Could it be my transfer case?

does it happen going from reverse to drive? or hitting it hard on bumps?

I have a 5 speed manual and it usually happens right as I am coming to a stop with the clutch pushed in. The grinding I notice most off road.

Hey MR99, do you have Manual hubs? I had the exact same noise in my 92 and it turned out to be the hubs were trying to engage and disengage all on their own. I replaced them and the 4 wheel is good as new, and no more banging either.

Did you check your truck's radius arm bushings? They can make pops when stopping and also grinding noise if they are worn out.

Which u-joints did you change? The axel u-joints can make that noise, but it sounds like auto hubs:(

I have extended radius arms with the urethane bushings, I will check to see if it is worn but they shouldn't be. I hope.

The driveline u joints were changed right before I bought it. They got about 5 thousand miles on them now.
