hi people my name is jeremy , i have a pretty bad issue with my 95 explorer XLT it has a 1.25 torrsin lift up front an the 153 shackels in rear. ok well the issue is when imm on th free way and i let off the gas peddle all the way it starts grinding till put it in (N)then i come to a stop and put it back into (D) and it well go till i let off .. and when that happens i have no reverse it well grind pretty bad too , park will sometimes not engage just move and make a clicking noise. i really want to fix this but i dont know how bad it is, it sound like my transfer case could have something bad in it , i heard people say a bad pinnon could do this too. i just dont want to buy a new T-case for $1300

You've probably got a bad transfer case.

Reverse is the first to grind when the 4405 starts going south. The grinding when you put it in park is from the case being in "neutral" allowing the output shaft of the trans still to keep spinning. The noise is caused by the parking prawl trying to engage.

-OR-

You rear is blown.

Try having someone (you trust) put it in gear and hold the brake pedal. Look under the truck (DO NOT GO UNDER, JUST LOOK) and see if the driveshaft is turning. If it is, blown rear... If it isnt, bad T-case.

ok the first time i tryed that its was trying to move like normal but then reverse would work fine to. so u think it would be the t-case is there a cheaper way to go about that like a rebuild kit or something

Its usually the rear case half that is worn out from the shift rail.
I've also seen the plastic wear pads on the high/low shift fork fall apart and cause the same problem you describe.
Without opening the case, you dont really know what parts you need to rebuild it.

You can find these cases cheap, if you look around. The last 2 I got were free.

+1 snoranger
