Doing that right now, just took two fresh ones, and redid one section yesterday and it looks....
BADASS.
For those that don't know, this past Summer I wanted to Paint my Explorer, Originally I wanted to do Gun Metal Gray with black stripes, then I wanted to do blue, then white, and I finally settled on Flat Black cause I could do it myself without to much trouble... or so I thought. I used 86cent spray paint cans from walmart, and it could've been worse. I had planned a week to do it, wasn't going anywhere, but halfway through the week there was an emergency I needed to handle downtown, so I had to do it in about 3 hours.... Later on I tried the rolling method on the front clip but it didn't turn out at all how I'd hoped, which you can see. I don't think I thinned it enough, or the rollers I had were just crap quality.
Anyways, fast forward to this weekend. After reading about another flat black paint thread, and deciding I'd use Spray Primer when I redid it, I decided to try it. It was about 75-80 degrees yesterday, plus with the Sun it felt like 85, so I decided to try it out and see how it looked, and I couldn't be happier. So here are pics of the Driver Side Rear Quarter panel with primer black instead of paint. I think it looks a lot more even in color, and the "satin-ness" of it is exactly what I want. It's also showing me a little hump I need to repair between the gas filler neck and the natural curve of the wheel well. But that's probably body filler I didn't sand down enough.
Anyways, here are pictures:
