What kind of new whip are you getting? Im thinking of gettin an old civic or accord 90'-93', im still keepin the X but with the way gas prices are and simpleness it is to work on Hondas I'll just keep the X for weekend and

well, first off it probably won't happen till later this year, maybe august at the latest... but if all goes well when i visit my father this weekend, who knows, i might be a proud owner come friday.

i'm looking into the honda preludes, between 1997-2001, casue of the oomph they pack (200hp in an I-4 engine!), and the amount of modifications that can be done. but i'm also looking for a small truck, maybe a ranger or s-10.

but if i had my choice, it'd be a honda prelude, and yeah, i'm keeping my explorer as a project, not to sure what i want to do, but i'm thinking about a lift, bigger tires, and chopping off the rear, like a first generation sport trac

Yea those Preludes are pretty fast, 2.2 Liter. My buddy has one on 10 psi of boost.
They're high dollar to though, they dont make them anymore, thats probally why
What a shame:(

yeah, i hear ya, for one in awesome condition can cost a pretty penny... i'm looking to spend mayyyyyyyybe 8,000 at the most, financed. and i'm finding some preludes around 99,00,01 for about 6.5-8, and they only have like 120k miles, which for a honda is like a warmup.

i've also thought about a mitsubishi lancer, but i'm looking at everything first, i need to go drive them all first...

i'll keep ya updated.

those preludes have a way to go to catch up to me 201,XX+ miles on the X so far...but, nice choice with the Lude's of that gen love those body styles but around here do not see many guys driving that model? did you ever get one yet?

nah, haven't got one yet. i've switched to looking at VW Jettas, the honda preludes were just so rare, and the ones i found and liked were out of my price range. but i like the Jettas, lots to mod, and pretty good gas mileage, ESPECIALLY the diesel ones, 35mpg city, it's worth paying 80 more cents a gallon for diesel if you get 15 more miles a gallon i say...

the search continues, and during the second week of april, i MAY paint my explorer...

OMG now this is just weird three of my friends drive jetta's one 02' GLS Gas Turbo 180hp one 02 GL Turbo Gas 180hp and one 04' GLI Charcoal...chipped about 210-215hp...20psi...now consider this do you want a car that is assembled in Mexico yes look on the manufactures sticker it says assembled in Mexico for most all the most current to newer VW jetta's...yet for some odd reason girls seem to dig them so if i get one i will get the 04-05 GLI like ^^above just for future reference the TDI in stock form is SLOW as malasses but can be easily modified for 3k to 4k++ however my friends jettas are slightly modified gas 1.8 turbo's with mods such as Intake, Exhaust, Bov/diverter valve, boost hoses, turbo timers and boost gauges...and those little things run 6.5 0-60 and lower in there slightly modded form the charcoal gli ^^described above does around 5.5 aggressively modified...I on the other hand would most likely chose an Audi over VW...hence an S4 is preferrable it is a twin turbo v6 stock...can pick up nice 2000-2002 for 11-15k...that is my dream whip...speaking of which the blue GL 02' of my friends recently has had a problem the turbo doesn't seem to spool up...and when you modify the intake on the turbo cars make sure you have the terminals for the battery completely tightened after you complete that job or your abs light may come on as my friends 02 GLS silver one did but they just pulled the code I think and got it off...the charcoal GLI i think may be having some electrical issues at the moment but overall his is really nice...that about does it for my post hope this helps on VW's ...btw i love GTI's/yes the hatchback two doors...those are sweet...PEACE...

Yea, Im thinking of resprayin mine also, Im going to search Here at www.explorerforum.com) i might just keep the same color,,

I havent found any hondas that I would consider coppin' around either for a even a decent price. ,

coudl you split this up into a few sections. i think you're talking about 3 jettas? maybe different paragraphs? thanks for the information... and about the assembly in mexico, most cars aren't assembled in the u.s. anyways.

as for an audi over a jetta, COST COST COST, i'm looking for a cheaper/newer car to last about 5 years, and one that's fun to drive.

But I hate Crome
That is HERESY!! May the gods of the Shiny goodness strike you down at this very moment!

okay okay, let me rephrase.

chrome looks okay in certain applications.

i'm picky about everything i do, so it has to be perfect if i'm going to have any. and very rarely does it ever. like all the cars that chrome out everything, they look ridiculous.

rims (done right and not TO annoying), bumpers, and sometimes grilles, but that's it really. my explorer right now is in the process of being blacked out, all chrome is being painted flat/gloss black

i just think it gives it a meaner look. like the ranger i'm getting this summer, even though it's brand new, i'm going to get rid of all the chrome, tint the windows out, and make it look like just a mean beast of a truck

very nice, but how did you straighten' the frame?

just saw this and thought i'd explain. i had no frame damage. i don't know how, but the fender/bumper took most of the abuse. teh frame was kinda twisted around the body bushing, but as soon as we took the bumper off it settled back, kinda like the tension was still there. the main part that was a big problem was the sheet metal between the engine and the fender, i call it the "dog cage". it's meant to collapse during impact, has ridges that let's it compact together easier. we took that off, heated it to red hot and restretched it to size.

but before we took it off, we welded an iron chain to it, hooked the chain to a bulldozer, and held on for dear life. it was interesting to say the least.

you should post some of your after paint pics josh.

Doing that right now, just took two fresh ones, and redid one section yesterday and it looks....
BADASS.

For those that don't know, this past Summer I wanted to Paint my Explorer, Originally I wanted to do Gun Metal Gray with black stripes, then I wanted to do blue, then white, and I finally settled on Flat Black cause I could do it myself without to much trouble... or so I thought. I used 86cent spray paint cans from walmart, and it could've been worse. I had planned a week to do it, wasn't going anywhere, but halfway through the week there was an emergency I needed to handle downtown, so I had to do it in about 3 hours.... Later on I tried the rolling method on the front clip but it didn't turn out at all how I'd hoped, which you can see. I don't think I thinned it enough, or the rollers I had were just crap quality.

Anyways, fast forward to this weekend. After reading about another flat black paint thread, and deciding I'd use Spray Primer when I redid it, I decided to try it. It was about 75-80 degrees yesterday, plus with the Sun it felt like 85, so I decided to try it out and see how it looked, and I couldn't be happier. So here are pics of the Driver Side Rear Quarter panel with primer black instead of paint. I think it looks a lot more even in color, and the "satin-ness" of it is exactly what I want. It's also showing me a little hump I need to repair between the gas filler neck and the natural curve of the wheel well. But that's probably body filler I didn't sand down enough.

Anyways, here are pictures:

P.S. - You can see my Explorer Forum sticker in the first window, my mom calls it the "Explorers Tramp Stamp" cause of placement, lol.

Nice!

I think with an airgun you would get the evenness your after.

Yeah but that'd require me having an air compressor and spray gun...

Eventually I'll have those, but not yet. Requires mucho cash and a place to store them.

The spray cans are going to be good enough until I get out of college. By which point the paint should be the last thing to finish on the Explorer.

if your still thinking about getting a prelude i would highly recommend getting the prelude type SH. a couple of my friends have those and they are quick. one added a turbo to his too and that thing is a beast. the normal preludes are cool too but if your going to get into tuning, then yeah the type SH would be the best bet. you can find one for around 8k now a days too. where are you located? my friend might be selling his soon.

As my profile has said since day one, I'm in Georgia...

Not looking at another car until I find a job here at college...
