i have a 2000 Explorer xlt, recently replaced both top control arms, both lower ball joints and both front shocks, since then the supension feels very hard and shaky, feels like you are driving over corragated roads or badly balanced wheels every time you drive over the slightest bumps on the road ,puts a constants shake through the vehicle and you can feel every bump , like wheel hop. have since replaced with other new shocks from monroe to bogue , refitted old control arms for diagnostic process only and again replaced ball joints plus fitted a mates explorer wheels and tyres as an emination process.balanced and had three wheel alignments , but has not made any difference at all!!! .:i havnt tried the rear air shocks yet because its feels like the front.
Because you fellas have so many Explorers over there im hoping someone will have the magic answer.
i dont like anything beating me but this one is coming close.
desperate for an answer!!!!!!!

Did you purge the power steering system of air after you completed the work?
That could cause a shaky steering feel.

Do several figure 8's turning the steering lock to lock. Repeat this for a day or two and the steering should get nice and tight.

Mine usually takes 2-3 days before it really feels tight again. This is a typical FORD issue.

hard as a Rock and shaky suspension

Thanks mate , yes i have already purged the power steer system thanks to a comment i had seen on this site but unfortunatley it did not make a difference but thanks for taking the time to answer my concern.

what are the best brands for front and rear shocks to make the ride as soft as possible??

Monroe Sensa-Trac's will give you a pretty good ride. Nothing is really going to make the truck ride like a car. What's your tire pressure? I run no more then 30 cold. Also how what condition are the tires in? Are they old? As a tire ages, it's rubber becomes harder. I just invested in a set of new Michelin LTX and the ride definitely improved over smaller bumps and cracks. A big change was noticed on the highway with the new tires.

I run on Monroe Sensatrac with 31PSI in tires (Wranglers). That is way better that OEM shocks. You didn't say what Monroes you had before - they sell the cheaper Monro-Matic Plus Shock. Those have "velocity sensitive valving". The Monroe Reflex ones have almost the same valving (improvements in size and banding) and both result in a stiffer ride, but offer more "control" - great for off road, not so good on asphalt.
Of course, that is just my oppinion...

Would you guys have any part numbers for the front and rear shocks for Monroe sensa tracs, for some reason theses guys cant seem to find any listing for my May 2000 UR XLT Explorer???? im about to go into the Monroe site and see if i can find any listing myself.

Thank you for your replies

I did got my numbers from Monroe site directly... Their selection tool is easy to use.

Thanks for that , i checked the link and have now got the part numbers which i will be ordering tommorrow.for some reason i could not find the parts on the Monroe site here.
You have all been a great help.!!!!
I will let you know the outcome after i fit the parts, i hope it makes a difference.
The roads are not that good here after the XMAS floods hense the reason this vehicle needs a softer ride.

Thank you: thumbsup:

Supply of Sensa trac-shocks!

Can any body suggest the best way or who to deal with to organise a quote with the cost of parts and shipping to Australia of the following part numbers for shocks for my Explorer XLT ?
Monroe Australia do not have a listing or stock and also would take three months to supply them to me !!!! from USA.

.
Monroe Sensa-Trac shock absorber part numbers from Monroe American web site:

Try rockauto.com. They have a discount for Forum members. Don't know about shipping "down under."
