I currently have a 2007 ST with a 4.0L V6. Recently I have noticed that when I place the vehicle in reverse there is a huge jolt throughout the entire truck. It's only done it a few times, and there are no problems during regular forward driving either upshifting or downshifting. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what was the issue? Thanks.

Finally someone has my same problem. Yes - mine does this too (07 4.0 XLT) - sorry, but I still do not know what causes it although it has been less and less recently. Please check your transmission lines by the radiator whenever it jolts - every time mine jolted those lines slipped out and dumped the trans. fluid everywhere causing more problems. I THINK it was because of an aftermarket radiator with bad/wrong connections. I now have a Ford radiator and have not had any problems with the lines.

QUESTION - when you crank it up, what do the RPM's do? I know that my engine revs high about 3 seconds after cranking and if I put it in reverse while it's reved high, it jolts.....Not sure what's causing it to rev high though. I have to wait until it dies down, then put in reverse.

Also I don't think it is coincidence that we both have 07 4.0's....first build/first gen issues maybe?

Hope this is even a little help... sorry for the long post.

It usually happens after I've been driving a while. And no there hasn't been a tranny fluid dump either. I'm just stumped at this point.

I clicked on the link and it appears that it's possibly for the 4.6L and not the 4.0L. Do they utilize the same tranny?
