Thanks for the previous threads about this issue...replaced the belt and fixed belt pulley...about to change the tension pulley when I noticed the crank pulley easing off the inner crank pulley during the squealing (engine running). Decided to check out this forum really quick to see what the hell was going on. I never knew the crank pulley was a two-part setup with a rubber inner ring...I learn something every day reading this the posts here!!!

My question is this...am I safe to drive short distances until I can get to my mechanic in a couple days? Watching the outer crank pulley ease off the inner crank pulley freaks me out a little!!!

Thanks...

Michael

I understand that the crank pulley can walk back towards the engine, this has resulted in some of the pulley"s alowing the truck to run with little problems. Now on the other hand, if the pulley walks the other way, you might have a heavy, spinning, weight loose in the engine compartment. It might rip into stuff that will do big nasty things, not to mention, leave you stranded, with a larger repair bill. just 2 cents. Good luck Pete

if it walks into the engine, it breaks the cam sensor. if it falls off. well you have a nice around 5lb weight doing damage that probably fell off over 1k rpm.
