I have a 2 door 96 explorer sport my hatch recently completely broke on me and I'm just going to buy a complete hatch replacement from my local junkyard just wondering what years can I take the hatch from I've heard up to a 2000 will fit a 96 any helps is greatly appreciated

Thank you for the fast response got my truck about 2 months ago from my grandmother and she didn't take really good care of it so I'm fixing her up right now only has 90k miles

The entire rear hatch broke???

'95-'97 is a direct swap. '98+ is different. It needs different taillights, the window molding doesnt line up quite right, the wiring is a little different, the window tint is a different color, etc.

Yeah- not a direct swap for 98+ hatch.

Yea the entire hatch broke the handle you twist literally snapped off in my hand and thanks for that info about the differences helped out this forums been a big help so far fixing my truck

Those are ridiculously easy to replace, much easier than the hatch swap will be.

I'd order one of these:

and call it good. I've bought them before, they work fine...

Thank you for the link I was going to do that but the internal parts of the hatch are shot was so rotted out that parts inside of the hatch crumbled weird that the most rusted part is the inside of the actual hatch
