First off, please do not lecture me for removing my rear cat. I am attempting to cut it off and do up a new exhaust system. I have cut between the two cats about halfway and cannot cut any further. Sawzall keeps busting blades and isn't cutting anyways. Die grinder can't get to the top part. What is making all of this really hard is also the tranny crossmember which is right below the pipe I am cutting. Tried jacking up the tranny and removing the crossmember to make it easier to work, but even with a breaker bar, I cannot undo the bolts under the tranny. How can I cut this pipe? I am stuck with straight pipe right now until I can get this cut. Any other tricks or tools that I haven't thought about.

Also, I cannot unbolt the front cat from the y-pipe (to take the whole assembly out) because the nuts are so severly rusted that something will end up breaking.

Do you have access to a plasma cutter or a oxycetalene set?

I wish. Don't know anyone who has one.

See if you can rent a ratchet chain pipecutter, they work great

gonna go to autozone to see if that can work.

Most likely need to hit a reg, tool rental place, is a plumbing tool, not automotive

I had the same problem with the rusted bolts when i put a new catco cat on my ex, i just sawzalled the bolts off and replaced them

The sawzall should work. Maybe get better blades? Try a different angle? Different spot? Cut 2 slots in the pipe & work it out?

dont know why you only want half of your cat, but i bought the catco cat from summit racing, and not only did my explorer pass smog with 0 emissions, but i gained power, and it sounds better now too. very pleased i am. I went through a few blades also cutting those hardened bolts, but the sawzall got her done, good luck!

Autozone had an exhuast pipe cutting deal. Seems to be working, hopefully will be all good here in a little while...

zero emissions huh? hahaha do u have a hybrid/electric exploder or what? :D

Well you know what i mean, on the smog report it showed 0's all the way across for smog. no measurable smog, judging by my gas mileage its definitely not electric or hybrid.

Alright, got er off. Die grinder and my pa helped a lot. Only got the one cat now, second one is gone.
