Noticed Passenger side head lamp, low beam was out, high beam works. Pulled out the old bulb and put in new one...low beam still out, high beam still works. Also noticed that the fog lights no longer work. Pulled a fog light bulb and it looks fine, does not look burned out?

Also, when I put the bulb in the driver side socket it works fine on both low and high beams.

Any advice on what to check next?

Thanks,

Tchaap

i dont know about the fog lights being i dont have any but as for the headlight how did the socket where u plug the bulb in look? on my 94 xlt ive burnt out 3 headlight sockets already i got to the point i just use wire nuts so when the next one melts i just untwist it and twist in the other one lol so check ur socket see if its burnt inside or melted

thewishkah - the socket looked fine, no noticable problems. How do you change the socket...cut the wires on the old one and solder/wire twist on a new one?

Robb - fuse 8 is a 10amp and is not blown

The passenger (low beam) headlight and the foglights are on a circuit all by themselves. The circuit is protected by fuse #8 in the fuse panel. If this fuse is not blown, you need to get your hands on a volt-meter (or 12v test light) and check for 12 volts on both sides of the fuse (little metal prongs on the top of the fuse while it is still plugged in), and at the headlight socket itself. This will help determine where the open is in the circuit.

WTF!!! my driver side head light had both beams on really low so I went out and got new lights put them in and noticed the driver side socket was all melted. is this a common problem with Explorers? I ended up wiring in a new socket but I tried thinking what happened and the only thing I came up with was the light must have been faulty.

Did you install higher wattage bulbs?

Thanks Robb, I'll test the fuse and the socket. Would the 10 amp fuse in #8 be an issue? Your fuse map shows it to be a 15 amp but I've got a 10 amp in there.

Thanks again Robb, I'll let you know what I find out.
