I have a 2003 sport trac that has the auto lamp feature which is turned off and I never use it. One cold morning I just got started on my way to work and it was dark so the head lights were on. As i was driving my high beams started flashing on and off! I could hear a relay of some kind clicking in the dash (sound like it was near the radio). This kept happening for about 30 seconds and I pulled over, and turned the truck off. Even with the car off it still did this! Then starting it back up, it still kept flashing the high beams.
Not having any clue what to do at this point and annoying other drivers I reached for the auto lamp button and turned on the auto lamp. Once they were enabled, the high beams stopped flashing! I left it like that and got to work. Once at work, i turned off the auto lamp feature and everything worked as normal. This happened one other time and has not happened since. Both times, turning on the auto lamp seemed to fix the problem.
What the heck is wrong with my truck? I searched the forums and didn't find anything. I assume this will apply to regular explorers and not just sport tracs.
I love my truck but next time I WILL get a non-option truck. So far the driver window motor is dead, the rear power window motor died and also chewed up all the steel cables it uses, the heated seat on the driver side is dead. All this from a less then 4 year old truck with 50,000 miles. Now this mystery problem with the head lamps flashing
