I went out to my car today and turned my lights on and all that turned on was my parking/marker lights. This has been happening for a while now, though before I would just twist the windshield wiper switch and they would come on. Also, my windshield wipers don't always come on so I was wondering if this might be either the light switch on the dash or the multifunction switch. Please help and give your opinion of which one you think it might be. Thanks for your help.

Yes its the multifunction switch for sure...95-01 multifunction switch go bad they can cause all kinds of weird problems...

have you ever heard of the headlight/parking light/marker light switch going bad and causing something like this?

Multi-f*ckedup switch. Other people have had the headlight go out on just one side or the other. You also have the problem with the wipers which also points to the MFS.

thanks for the input i will see what i can do about getting a new one then.

I have that issue now, my driver side light (low beam) doesn't work. I thought it was just a blown bulb so I put a new bulb in. The light worked after I plugged it back in and thought the problem was fixed. I went out the following morning and the light did not work. I plugged the driver side bulb into the passenger side connector and it lit up fine. So I put the bulb back in the driver side and off went to work. The strange part is, just the other night I was driving and the light came on and of course now it doesn't work again.

So is this a switch issue or a short somewhere in the wiring?

BTW, I have a 96 Explorer Eddie Bauer edition

You may have a different problem if you have the mileage/fuel computer in the center console. It may be the Lamp Out Module. Check out this post in the Lighting FAQs http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122570

I'm glade this helped and thanks for the reply.
Also a big thanks to bubbaboy for the great write-up on the LOM.
