My '02 XLT developed a problem with the headlights. When they are on high, and pull the switch back to dim them, they won't doim. You have to pull them back like you are flashing your lights two or three times before they go to dim. I took it in, stealership said it was the multifunction switch, and replaced it.
When I took it home, the high lights didn't come on at all, then the next day they started working normally. That was two weeks ago, last night they stuck on again, had to flash three times to get them to come down.
Any Ideas? Is there something other than the multifunction switch at play here?
I have searched for similiar problem on board, didn't find anything.

Depending if u have fog lights and/or daytime running lights, there could be as many as three relays in play. All X's have the High Beam relay (should be under the hood/check owners manual) and I'd start with that. Before buying a new one, check and clean pins if they show any signs of moisture or corrosion and put back in. Retest. A bad ground could also cause those symptoms.

If you've already paid the dealer to fix it, take it back to them seeing as how it isn't really fixed.

Thanks for the replies. I am taking it back to the dealer. I just want some ideas to throw at them. I know for a mechanic that's aggravating for the customer to say how to fix it, but this is the second time I've had to bring it back in for something I paid for, they said was fixed, and wasn't.

Thanks again,

Dave

Sounds like it is time for a new mechanic if it is an option. Good luck with getting this taken care of.

These dealerships kill me. My wifes esplorer, 2004, was shifting erratically from 2nd to 3rd so we took it to Ford. They said we needed a new, not rebuilt but new, transmission. $5900. #### that. I took it to a trans shop and they said nothing was wrong with the trans. Try a new TPS. I buy a new TPS and a few days later after the computer sees the change and problem solved.
