Hey!

Boy! Is that not a PAIN in the ass?? lol. Make sure you've depressurized your system. Make sure there is NO crap in the recess where your tool goes. Make sure your tool isn't deformed.

Then, get ready for the yellow shower no one likes, and finesse that thing. I forget what we had to do, but it didn't take a LOT of force, and it popped loose.

All I remember from last time...

All i can say is keep working it, and when the hose pops off you will say 'that was easy, why did it take me so long?' Its like there is a sweet spot and you have to give that special tool just the right amount of pressure.

You got further than I did on my first attempt! My parts guy, who is normally excellent, told me that I did not need a special tool, which turned out to be wrong!

I happened to do this on Sunday, when he was closed, so I turned to one of the chain stores for help. They told me I needed one of several different sized tools that all looked the same except for the color (blue vs. red) and dimensions (1/4” vs. 5/16th?). However, they said I could buy both and return the one I didn’t need.

Also, as High Order1 points out, make sure you've depressurized your system. From what I remember, I opened the gas cap for a couple of minutes.

This was for a 98 Mountaineer 5.0L.

I hope this helps.

opening the cap is NOT releasing pressure.
the pressure is after the fuel pump, you need to bleed the pressure from the system by the schraeder valve, or a similar method.

I got a book in front of me that says you relieve the pressure in your lines by starting her up, opening up the fuse box and pulling the Fuel Pump relay out. She should run for a few seconds then the engine should die. Try turning her over a few times to get as much pressure out of the lines as you can. That should relieve the pressure in your lines.
