head unit replacment

I have a 91 eb. With an in dash cd player. I wan to replace it with a new head unit. The problem is that I have the factory sub in the back. The guy at best buy said that I would need some converters so that it would work. Is this true? Or will just a wiring harness and a mounting kit be good enough?

there is some sort of wiring harness that you can buy to make it work, I looked into it but decided to bypass the stock stuff because as long as you continue to use the stock sub, you use the stock amp, and there wil be no quality increase reguardless of what brand you buy.

At least, this is my experience, I hate to state things as fact that could be just bad circumstances
