I am looking to buy headers for my 97 OHV 4.0 explorer, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get them for a reasonable price. Explorer express sells a set fo 398$, does anyone know if these are a good set of headers. All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pegons,

What other work have you done to the truck? Flyguy and I recently got headers. I got coated JBA's and he got bare BBK's. He dyno'ed at only gaining 2hp. I actually lost low end torque, but gained high gear passing power. I don't think it's worth it unless you have all the other mods you can do. If you haven't already, do the filter mod, catback, computer chip, and TB. After those 4 things, there's some other stuff you can do besides headers. BTW, what gears do you have? Look up the axle code on the door and we'll let you know.

BTW, welcome to the site!

I've put headers on my truck, I noticed more low end torque
I also have a chip, K&N,jacobs, wires, and cat-bac. The gas mileage did suffer But hey it sounds good! anyway it took me around 6 hrs. and a couple of cold ones to put on the headers....AMMO TROOP

I have a 93 xlt 4.0 ohv. I've added a K&N conical filter, borla catback, high flow cat, and then borla headers and I really dont think it was worth the effort of first installing them and then forever chasing leaks, but one word of advice if you do get headers get some header wrap. It will help get rid of that annoying ticking noise that you'll get with headers and it will keep ur engine compartment cool. It is a whole lot easier to put the tape on em before you install em. I agree with flyguy's dyno results I dont feel anymore power at all, maybe even a slight loss. I think I need to regear and get 3.73 instead of the 3.27s i have now and also I think a chip and MAF would help too because I need to change my fuel curve with all the air the engine is getting.

I bought my headers from carparts online because i got 100 bucks off with a coupon and it took nearly 5 months for me to get em. Even for the 240 or whatever i payed i dont think it was worth it.
