My heat is always on unless I turn it to Max AC.
I have changed the valve that cuts off the hot water flow, it was leaking anyway.

I also changed the climate control switch that tells what should be running (Max AC, AC, Panel etc..)

I removed the glove box and I can watch that door open and close based on the change to Max AC or the other settings.

Any setting other than MAX AC result in "MAX HEAT".

It almost acts like there is a vaccum problem or something not telling the door to open when it should or telling the water shutoff valve to close.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Chris

Could it be the blend door???

'96explorereddiebauer , not sure

if that is the door that opens and closes that covers up the squirrel cage fan(located behind the glove box), it opens and closes depending on if it is set on MAX AC or not.

If I remember right it is open if I set it to MAX AC, but is closed any other time.

Not really a mechanic, just decent at figuring stuff out and changing parts.

thanks,
Chris

There is another door that regulates the amount of hot/cold air (the blue to red dial). That door is poorly designed, breaks (of course in the full heat position) and is a BI*CH to fix. Run a search for Blend Door or Actuator. There are lots of threads about this, with some lo-tech "fixes". The real fix requires removal of the complete dash....... If you have an extended warranty, you may be covered.

I have a similar problem, kind of. The air never turns off. If I turn it to cold, it'll be cold. If I turn it to hot, it'll be hot. I have no problem with the temperature. My problem is that it never turns off. No matter what. Sometimes it's not too strong, sometimes it's full blast. It just never stops. Anybody have any ideas?

thanks TPLYNCH and '96explorereddiebauer

I'll try to find that other door.
After that I'll see what to do from there.
We just got a recall notice for something, haven't checked in on it yet. I am not real satisfied with my Explorer or Ford.

At 98K crankshaft broke in two. (no internal probs broke at harmonic balancer).
neither rear door will open from the inside (no the child lock is not locked).
Heat problem.

Unless something changes I won't ever by another product from Ford motor company. Not because of the product, but more because of the run-around I got with the crankshaft problem, but that is for another thread.

thanks guys,
Chris

Your at least the second person whose had a crankshaft snap in half. There is a thread about it if you search for it. The rear door problem is common.... lots of threads. THere is a little plastic piece that breaks from people yanking on the door handle before you have a chance to unlock the doors. Search for rear door wont open and you'll find the threads, with fix instructions.

thanks Tom, wish I had found this site a long time ago.
