I have a 92 XLT that I am having some heating problems with. I just had the thermostat changed, radiator cap changed, and a flush performed. They also did a pressure test and said that everything looked fine. The temp gauge constantly moves from cold to hot while driving with only a little heat coming out, any clues? Thanks!

do you have any leaks?

The shop said that they couldn't find any leaks. I got back to work and there was antifreeze on the ground. I took it back and they said that it was probably overflow that fell on the chassis.

i'd check the water pump out, if thats not it, it may be the heater core, you said the heater wasn't working properly, if you smell anti-freeze in your car, it is probably the heater core, but my guess would be to replace the water pump or find any leaks.

When mine did the same thing, I just needed to flush the heater core.

When mine did this I replaced the thermostat again. I also broke the little plug out of the breather hole based on info from this site. So I'm not sure if the first replacement was bad out of the box or opening the hole worked, but it's fixed now. It does take longer to heat up when it's cold though, but then I get super heat.
