I was outside today checking on my belt I just installed yesterday and now I see my heater control valve is leaking. I noticed I was loosing coolant and was deathly afraid is was a head gasket or something. Needless to say I was happy to find out it's only this. My local Ford parts desk wants $17.43 for the part, not too bad.

How hard is this thing to change? Do I need to drain the coolant?

I checked my Ford Service manual but is seems to skim over this part and not give any specifics.

Thanks.

Very easy..no need to drain the coolant. You will lose some, but not too much.

Thanks SSIKORA. I was hoping I didn't have to. It's about 20 degrees and snowing here, looks like I will be changing this thing out in the cold! Lucky me.
