I just went through the hassle of replacing the heater core in my '05 V8 Explorer. However I have a few remaining questions:

1. The Blower now does not work - any thoughts? I can see the actuators moving when toggling the direction selector switch (I actually had to repair this part of the system as it would only come out of defrost previously) and I can hear actuators moving on the temperature (manual) control. However, there is nothing with the Blower switch - at all setting. It was working fine prior to the core replacement.

2. I was able to find homes for all of the connectors when reattaching the instrument panel, except for the Heater Vacuum control Switch (Ford Part #1L2H-19A523-AA).The lines coming in to/out of it go to other connections, but the switch itself is kind of just hanging and the spring loaded depressible button on it obviously will remain out if it is just hanging. I did a poor job of noting where I disconnected this from. Does anyone know where it belongs and could it be related to my Blower issue?

3. Like an idiot, I dropped one of the Evaporator/Blower assembly nuts that secure the assembly to the firewall and cannot retrieve or find it. This is a rather large nut which includes at least an inch of integrated washer. My guess is that it is sitting on top of the Transmission and I cannot seem to reach it or shake it loose. I am guessing that it will not hurt anything as I do not want to drop the transmission to get it. Should I be concerned?

Thanks for reading the long post. I will copy this thread into the HVAC forum.

Thanks,

Dan

Update:

Last night my quick drive around the block did manage to dislodge the washer. However, I still would appreciate any insight on the first two questions.

Thanks,

Dan

I should also mention that I can feel heat from the vents and can seem to control how hot that air is with the blend door setting (so I am pretty sure that the blend door is working). But, the blower will not come on.

Thanks,

Dan

The switch number you list doesn't do anything for me (home mechanic) so I'll try my best.

Main power for the blower comes from the 40 amp fuse in the battery junction box at location 36. I doubt this is blown.

Power is then fed to the blower motor relay, also in the battery junction box. I doubt this is the problem.

This relay is signaled from the HVAC Mode Switch (defrost, floor, etc.). The conductor is a YEL/BLK. Possibly this wire is in the connector you are trying to find the home for. This connects to the back of the mode switch. This switch has the vacuum lines connected plus a separate wire connector just above that. Make sure you have both. This portion of the circuit just gives a permissive for the fan to run as long as a mode is selected (other than off).

As for fan speed, that is controlled by the fan speed switch. The switch is connected to a High Speed Fan Control Realy and also to a Blower Mtr Resistor Unit. If either of these items are disconnected then no blower either. The speed switch uses conductors Red/Org, Yel/Red, Lt Grn/White. The high speed relay has Red/Org, Pnk/White, Org/Blk and Blk. The resistor has Org/Blk, Yel/Red, Lt. Grn/White and Blk.

Try and make some sense of what I describe with what you have in your hand and see if you can figure where it might go.
