heating/cooling question

okay this one is new to me heater does not get hot
tempature guage never goes past the "O" in normal on the guage. just replaced the thermastat with a 195 degree one. If exploror sits for a while it will go up to 1/4 of the way which is okay, but once I start going it goes down to below the "O" or "N" and heater gets cold. I know i want it to run cool but I think the engine has to run @ a certain temp to run efficently? anyone have any ideas????? o yah coolant is full

I had this same problem. I switche the hoses in and out of the heater core. After a couple days it cleared up the problem and I switched them back. All is still ok.

Regarding the operating temp, my '92 has never shown higher than 'o'. Once I get up to highway speed it cools it down to about an 1/8" below the 'n'. I also have a 195 t-stat and flushed the entire system during Christmas. It blows really hot air so I'm not complaining.

If your heater is not pumping out hot air, flush it and change your coolant. You might just have some blockage in your heater core.
