I recently flipped and rolled a bronco II and totaled it..but soon after I ran across a 98 Ford Explorer XLT in almost perfect condition. Thinking about lifting it and putting on 33" Goodyear MT/Rs.

How much of a lift will work for that? I'm somewhat new to the idea.

Would a 2" TT work?

Thanks a lot. I appreciate the information. Was wanting to gather as much info as possible before I got started.

What rear gear do you have? with 33's I would think you would need at least the 3.73, higher would be better. 31's will fit with just the TT and shackles, much cheaper way to go. You would also have to look into beafing up the suspension with anything bigger than 31's

Yeah, mine is a 3.73

3:73 gear is not enough for 33's,, plain and simple,,
i have 31's on my truck with the 3:73 and it lacks a bunch, would be better with 4:10's., , the right gear for 33's is 4:56, that puts the speedometer even close to stock,

there are alot of vehicles on here with 33's, most just do a body lift tt, and shackles, and cut just a bit of the bottom of the bumper for clearance,,
look into the posts by gmanpaint, he has 33's on his Ex with tt, and shackles, and a 3 inch body lift, AND 4:56 GEARS,

How do you get the gear to 4.56? And an estimate on the price of the gear change?

you have to actually change the ring and piniopn gears in the front and back differentials, usually you have a shop do them, unless you are really mechanically inclined,,
not exactly certain of the price, it varies from place to place,,
sometimes on the forum for sale section there are gears available,

Ah, I appreciate it. I really do.

About how much would it cost to get a 3" body lift installed on an 1998 Ford Explorer XL?
