Hey guys my name is Jeff and I am the proud owner of a 1986 BroncoII which will be replaced this coming spring with an Explorer.

I am a married 36 year old with an 8 year old daughter and live in Edson Alberta Canada.

Still pretty new to the whole 4x4 lifestyle and trying to learn as much as I can.

I was hoping to get to know all of you and at the same time hoping to get some feedback on what Explorer you all would recommend.

I know that the 8.8/D35 combo is alot tougher than my 7.5/D28 combo in my B2 and I am leaning towards a 2dr 4wd Explorer in the 1991-1994 range.

Any thing pro and con that I should be aware of when I am looking?

I know that there were change-ups in engine specs and tranny specs etc, but it's nice to get some feedback from the people that have been through it all before ;)

Thinking of running 33's-35's with 5:13's rear locker, front LS etc.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to getting to know you all and I wanted to say congrats on a great looking site.

Jeff

Welcome to the site, this place has everything you ever wanted to know about xploders & then some, can't really help you on your choice if your looking for a 1st generation, I have the 2nd generation sport and absolutely love it with the ohc engine which I personally prefer over the ohv engine in the 91-94 range just due to a lil more power in my opinion. Good luck though!

Alright! Another Canadian joins the site, welcome. With a Gen1, you'll definately want to check out the auto hubs. Engage the system on some loose ground and with the driver's window down listen for clicking noises while driving forward turning the wheel lock to lock. Then straighten out, dis-engage and back up straight (min 10ft) to unlock the hubs, then go forward again doing the same thing to ensure they fully disengaged. The A4LD auto tranny is a weak point on them, a cooler helps quite a bit, the manual is better. The OHV engine could use a little more power (easily reached with some simple mods) but it is strong and reliable.

Well I am keeping an eye out for any 2dr Explorer.

I am a Financial Services Manager at a Ford dealership, so I may get a good deal on something that happens along.

I drove a 2000 Sport as a demo for a previous dealership and I loved it.

This time around I am going all out, the finances are settled and I just need to find the right ride.

Anyhow, thanks for the welcome you two.

Jeff
