I just purchased my first explorer. It is a 2004 Limited 4X4 V6 Oxford White Tri-coat. This truck is very nice and impressed my wife and I so much, we bought it on the spot. The only complaint I have with the truck is the fact the engine is loud on the interior of the vehicle. We consiered buying the 4Runner, but it was a little bit smaller and did not have a functional third-row seat like the explorer. We have typically bought Japanese vehicles in the past due to overall value and reliability, but we could not pass up the value of the explorer.

After we purchased the Explorer, I wondered if I maybe should have bought the V8 version. We will pull a ski boat in the future, but nothing really large. Outside of the engine noise in the cabin, I would imagine the V6 should be plenty for that along with daily use.

One question I have. I took the Explorer out on the interstate for the first time since I bought it and noticed a droning noise when I am between 65-75 mph. It seems there is a slight vibration in the front somewhere. The tire pressure monitor was alerting me there was low pressure as I was leaving my house. By the time I got close to the interstate (3-4 miles), the warning turned off. I am assuming the air in the tires warmed up, thus causing the air to increase in pressure and cause this to happen. If the air is not totally up to spec, will the aforementioned vibration/droning be a result of this? This is my first 4X4, so I am not totally familiar with the characteristics of the ride/handling/dynamics. I have not had a chance to check the tire pressure, but will do so tommorow. In the meantime, I would appreciate any input you guys may have on this topic.

Thanks,

Michel

Welcome :D

the v6 will be fine for towing the ski boat...i tow a 18ft rinker in the summer with my 96, and you 04 has quite a bit more power.

Welcome to the site, yeah like he said you'll be fine, I tow a 8'ft honda turbo pwc with an sohc that will light a FIRE in your panties ;)

Welcome to the site.....

You should manually check the pressures int he tires, don't trust a computer to do it for you. They might be too soft.

and if its been sitting on a dealers lot..... lets jsut say they check them when the look flat....

Thanks!

I am going out and checking the pressure in all of the tires myself. When we were test driving the truck at the dealership, the warning also came on. Apparently they put just enough pressure to get it off of the screen. I am assuming they did not put in the right amount of pressure. I will let you know what happens. If it is not the tire pressure, then it may be smomething else.

Thanks,

Michel
