Hello everyone! I am new here, but not to trucks. I was pointed this way by Matt (Mounty71) after I got my latest project... and I really mean project explorer. First I'll tell you a little bit about myself.

I am from Long beach, CA and love anything mechanical. My current daily driver is an 01 Ranger Edge lifted with Uniball upper arms and many, many mods.

I just built a new bumper for it and I'm still trying to get a piece of aluminum mounted up.

A few weeks ago I talked to my neighbor about the explorer that has been sitting in front of his house for 2 years and he mentioned that he is getting rid of it soon. Last week I was told he just wanted to get rid of it and was giving it to me for FREE! Its a 96 4.0 with 200k miles and it is in sad sad sad sad shape. I think the cats are clogged, interior is trashed and it needs alot of work.

I am currently thinking the plans for this are a 5.0, solid front axle and 4wd with some 37" tires. If I go that route it will be fully caged with tube bumpers and all.

Thats about all for now, I'll cruise around the forums to get some ideas for my swap and will make a new project thread when the time comes.:salute:

Hello Alon!

Dude... your pictures are WAY to big. I think the max for the forums are supposed to be 640x480? or somewhere around there... my computer literally just took a **** when I clicked on this thread...

Welcome to the site though! lol. I use tinypic.com to upload my pictures because you can pic the 640x480 size so it'll upload, shrink the picturse accordingly, and also give you forum text in an instant.

I used tinypic and guess i forgot to do that... Fixed!

LMFAO, Josh, you never cease to make me laugh man. Welcome to the forum, Alon. Hope if there's anything you need from us, we can help you with it!

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'll start a build thread in a few days

welcome aboard, I recognize that truck from DR. The jewelery guy right?

You'll be amazed at all the little how to info and help you'll be able to get so that thing will get running again.

AND if you want to do it right on a matching set of axles, I happen to have a set for sale.

Yup, I'm on DR and I am the Jewelry guy.

I do want to do it right, but right now I just want to do it. I'm going to start with doing a spring over swap in the back and then build a stand for the front end to sit on. I'll then start cutting off the A arm brackets and building some new crossmembers most likely. I think for now I'm going to go with a leaf sprung front end and some cheap shocks just to get it moving. I am pretty sure this engine is toast so I'll also have to look into doing a v8 swap and looking for a tcase and all that good stuff.

What axles do you have and how much are you looking to get for em?

It's these, I have a buyer waiting on funds in Denver but I'd have to go that route on my way to WI in January. I'd rather not drive the mountain in the winter if I can avoid it and of course it would be more fun to see them under an Explorer instead of a J@@P.

I wish I could get those, but this thing is a BUDGET build right now. Between my truck and my dirtbike and being a full time student and working... Money and time are tight.

right on. If you plan to do an SAS for any cheaper make sure you do your homework cause they're not cheap. Will trade a dirtbike and some wedding bands LOL.

I got the dirtbike so I would stop breaking the truck. If I get rid of the dirtbike... it might end up costing me more in the end!

I know its not cheap to do the SAS, which is why I'm going to take my time and do alot of the prep work and things that cost nothing for the first few months.

If you need some rings, I can definitely help out with that ;)

I hear that, I start wakeboarding when wheeling gets too expensive then I start wheeling when wakeboarding starts to get too expensive and jump back and forth for the past 10-12 years. We'll talk about the bands regardless. I've got a great jeweler that custom made my lady's ring but if I know the money can go into an ofroad truck from a sale I'll give you a look for our wedding bands. It's going to be tough to figure out something that adds to the design of her ring.

by the way, I've bought, cleaned up and sold a truck for double that was in similar condition of that Explorer you have there. Even for a backyard weekend warrior you'd be amazed at the Mcquiars 3 step clean, wax, protect thing they have.

The plan right now is that Eric from Enviousdetailing will be doing a FULL detail on it. It will be a "not touched in 2 years to new" type of detail. He will be using it for some promo pics and a full writeup so I get hooked up :D

Little update....

The explorer was we sanded twice and has been compounded once, still going to be compounded, polished, waxed, etc. Can't believe it is getting this much attention, but when you're getting hooked up like I am on the detail I couldn't say no.

welcome
