- 1999 UK Explorer Red/Grey
Hi All
Just joined up with you and thought I'd pop in here and say howdy. I have just bought a 1998 Explorer and am getting to know as much about it as possible (I can't yet tell you what model as the paperwork just says 'Ford Explorer'. She's in beautiful condition but the motor, at 163,000 miles, is idling rather lumpy. I think I hear some timing chain rattle on startup too but it disappears when she warms up. Apart from that she is a beauty and everything else on her is working just fine.
The reason I bought her is to tow a boat I am about to start building. My 'other car', a Peugeot 806 MPV is not powerful enough. I plan to do the Explorer up under the bonnet. May install a recon motor if it's needed. Plan to tow my boat all over Europe and the UK and launch her to explore the Med, particularly the Greek Islands and Turkey.
Flew all over the world but never got to see much up close and personal. Now I'm retired, I plan to go back to all the really interesting places and look at them from sea level - or thereabouts!
Anyway, hope I can contribute some as well as learn from all you more knowledgeable guys 'n gals.
Best wishes
