hELLO TO ALL! This is my first post on these boards, I just found them today! I have a 1991 explorer with 245,000 miles! It is on it's second engine and 2nd transmission! I love it.
Funny story- last summer I was driving it and went to pass someone, and put the hammer down, and clunk- that was it! Nothing worked,, no drive, reverse, 4x4- nothing! I thought the tranny let go. So I bought another explorer, a sport, that had a bad engine, but a good tranny and did the swap. Since the engine was blown it was nearly impossible to get the torque converter off, so I said- heck w/ it we will just use the one that was on the original exp. Well, got the new tranny bolted up, put it in gear--- nothing! I took out a perfectly good tranny because it had a bad torque converter!!!LOL now it is funny, but at the time was not quite as funny!!!
