Hi Everyone,
What can I say? My 96 Explorer has been simply the best vehicle I've ever owned. It has been so useful to me over the years that I really think it changed my life for the better.
When I needed to do long haul driving (cross country) for my small business, it held up in the most extreme conditions, with great gas mileage to boot.
When I needed a tow vehicle for my racebike, it got me to the track (5 hours away) everytime, and was actually pretty nice to sleep in too when I couldnt afford a hotel room.
Years of city living, broken into and abused about 8 times.
During my few days off...fishing, offroading, general exploring
Girlfriend and 4 friends borrow the truck to meet me and friends at a cabin up North....she wipes it out going too fast across and icy bridge. Mashes up the front and back, and nearly pushes through the railing into the raging icy river below. They would have died.
I still drove it home.....alone.
When I got married to someone else and had kids....great here of course.
Once again, years of hauling equipment stacked to the roof for work, great mileage, no repairs.
When we bought a house and were doing our own renovations. It hauled tons of lumber, gravel(!), concrete, drywall, and about 50 trips to the dump.
More occaisonal offroad and snowy fun...
Kids are huge, tons of stuff all the time. 180,000KMS and going strong. I now actually don't want a new truck. It fits my life like a glove. I'll buy the wife another new car instead!!
A buddy's stag is coming up and we're doing a little offroading and fishing.
Now I'm about to install a new set of shocks. Thanks for the great info on the shocks page. I'll post my experience when it's done.
