My EXplorer hums at low idles and beyond. It seems to be coming from the air filter/intake area. I assumed it was dirty and removed air filter. But that made it louder. The idle also lunges and forces it to stall. Otherwise it runs great.

Probably two separate issues. I would check the pulleys for the hum. As for the surge, definitely clean the Intake Air Control (IAC) and clean the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF, the tube with the big connector coming out right before the air box. Make sure to use electronics cleaner, nothing else!). If all else fails, change the fuel filter.

The humming at idle is typically caused by a bad IAC valve. Sometimes you can remove and clean it, but if that's the problem you may need to just replace it.

There's a round gizmo on the side of the IAC that's a filter for the IAC. If it gets clogged it amplifies the hum. You can pop the unit off and clean the media inside if you wish, or as has been said, just replace the IAC.
