Hi I have just got my first Explorer 1997. What a great vehicle. I have only one problem to solve and could use some help. The Air conditioner pump cuts in and out even when the system only set to vents. Is this normal or is it a fault? Can some one let me know if the pump runs in any of the vent possitions. Thanks Tom

Welcome to this forum! It usually cycles so there isn't anything wrong. Does the A/C work or does it cycle even in a normal setting? It could be low on freon.

Welcome Tom. I had a '91 with a similar issue. There were leaks in my system that caused it. Something to check out...

For a 97, with manual climate control, the AC compressor is on (may cycle) in all the selection positions except for Off and Vent (the position directly to the left of Off). The compressor will come on as needed in all other positions.

welcome tom j
