Help 2nd alternator in 2 weeks...

I have a 2005 Ford Explorer Limited 60k. My alternator went out 2 weeks ago. I had to get one from Advance Auto. I put it in and last night it went out again. Anyone know why this could happen?

I just found the cable at the top of the alternator is fried?

battery reads 11.5 v

try replacing that cable and see what happens. i'm also thinking maybe your voltage regulator is bad and it's not engaging/disengaging the alternator properly. but again i'm not sure, just an idea.

The voltage regulator is inside the alternator, right? Being the 2nd alternator issue in 2 weeks i dont want to replace the cable before i figure out what it is. No fuses are blown and no other issues with the car, well except rearend seals leaking, tire pressure sensors going off.
