help!! 3rd blower resister-->same problem

Hi, I hope I can find some help here on this 96 Explorer blower problem...

I keep having the heater go out on everything but Hi speed. Every time its the same thing. Replace the resister and it works fine for a couple weeks.

I think the resister has a little silver diode? one way gate on it that keeps blowing. If I jump the little silver cylinder then it works fine.

I dont wanna jump it then burn down the truck but I cant keep buying these resisters every three weeks either.

That silver "diode" is really a thermal fuse designed to open at a certain temperature. It is placed near the resistors to prevent them from overheating in the event of an airflow blockage. The flowing air cools them. Sometimes these thermal fuses open as a result of age. In your case, after three there is something wrong. You can go to any Radio Shack and buy this part 270-1320 for about $1.50 and crimp it in place. If you solder, the heat will blow it. It opens at 288 F. Check for a blockage. It might be a vent door that doesn't open wnen it should. It could also be a motor that has bad bearings and draws more current than it should. This current wouldn't be high enough to blow a fuse at high speed.

Whats a new or used motor cost? Sounds like it is probably a bad motor. Does it ever squeel?

No unusual noises lately. But I did replace the blower wheel not too long ago. I guess I could have messed something up then...

I dont remember which happened first though, the first resister or the wheel...
