I need a little help. Today while driving the OD light started flashing and I started experiencing problem with the transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd and then not shifting into 3rd at all. I took it to AutoZone and the codes were shift solenoid B and C stuck. I tried to get the truck home but the further I drove it the worse it got. At one point the truck started slipping when I pushed the accelerator. Now it will go into reverse but its slipping and want move when it’s in drive.

What is the condition of the fluid? It may be the solenoids, it may be a wiring harness issue. Extremely dirty fluid can cuase solenoids to clog, but usually the most important one, the Electronic Pressure Control solenoid (EPC) will be the first to succumb.

When two solenoids appear to fail at the same time I become suspicious that the real culprit may lay elsewhere.

Let's start with fluid condition. What is it?

Thank you both for the replies. The truck is a 96 with 191,000 miles on it. I was able to get the ford TSB kit, the Superior shift kit and the boost valve. Saturday I pulled the pan off and the fluid was very dirty and it had a strong burnt odor to it. I pulled the valve body off, rebuilt it and put everything back together last night. The results of the test drive are mixed.

1. It takes to long to shift from 1st to 2nd and will only do so if you let off the gas at about 10 to 15 miles an hr. It will not shift out of 1st as long as you’re giving it gas.

2. 2nd to third is very smooth. So smooth you can barely feel it.

3. I have no 4th gear at all.
