Ok, i am getting ready to buy all the stuff for my System for my 98 sport.

Here is my questions.

I am pretty much decided on the subs ( i think they are the same as LEENJENN is going to buy. AudioBahn 126Q.

I am not sure what AMP to go with. I am also going to try to put some 5 1/4 Components in the doors. Any info you guys can give me will be great. I want to have a great sounding system but stay as cheap as possible.

I might also get a new headunit so if you have any input there please throw that in also.

Last thing is a box, i want to make some sort of hidden deal and not just some big box in the back. Is there anything out there that can help me in this quest? Anyway Guys and girls i really appreciate all your help!

Take a look at one with MP3 capability.

Keep us posted and good luck.....

IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME

I've been a car audiophile for close to 6 years now and people keep making the same mistakes over and over.

What do I mean by that?

The headunit is the heart and soul of your system. Thats the bottom line. You can buy the best speakers in the world, spend thousands on amps and crossovers. But that will all be in vain if you SOURCE is poor. Pump static through 1000 watts of power, thats just loud static. :nono:

I would HIGHLY advise starting with a quality head unit. Even if you can't afford a top of the line Alpine or Pioneer I would at least get a mid-grade Sony if for nothing other than Pre-Amp output. Right now my head unit of choice is the Alpine 7894. It has MP3 playback, is XM ready, and cranks out 60x4watts of power. It sports 3 sets of 4volt preamp outputs (L/R front, L/R rear, L/R sub) and time correction. An awesome package for $450.

Remeber, you're building a system. Do it a piece at a time. Start where you'll notice the biggest diffrence. Just my .02 cents. I realize I haven't been around the forum in a while, but I used to know a thing or three.

Skippman-

Sorry i forgot to mention, that i already have an aftermaket Kenwood. Can't remember the type off hand but i know it cost me 450.00 a year ago. Don't worry i got that covered even if i don't get a new HU.

Fantastic! Then I higly recommend getting some components for the front. What's your price range?

Looking to spend around a Grand or so.

I figure the subs will be around 400-500 for 2. Them the AMP and components .

This is where i am Stuck. I am not sure what to get. I mean if i go over a Grand no biggy just trying to keep it in that ballpark.

might i suggest a rockford

I definatly see a difference in my amp compared to other amps with the same watts stamped on the case, I would get anything power series, Im sure you could find a 500.2 for $200

For $250 you can get a set of Boston Pro Series 5 1/2" components for up front. $160 gets you a rally set for the back. On the subs I recommend Diamond, MB Quart, and Polk in that order. If you wanted to stay on timbre I would go with Boston Pro's or Competitor series 12"s. I'm not a huge bass fan. I'm more into sound quality, but that's a given with my setup.

Those Bostons up front will sound great if you feed them 50 watts per unit. A nice 200 watt 4 channel Alpine or Rockford amp will push them. On the subs, a Rockford Class D would be great.

if you plan on getting a pair of 1206Q subwoofers, then i recommend the A2200HCQ amp. originally i thought the 1206Q had 2 ohm VC's like the 1205Q, but it has 4 ohm VC's. so if you run two of them at a 1 Ohm mono load, the 2200HCQ will be perfect.

if you want to find the subs cheaper, check ebay. i dont really like ebay because i was ripped off a few times, but a lot of people had good experiences with it.

here are two auctions for the subs with a buy it now for $150. the seller has great feedback.

So would i need 2 of the AMP's? I am so stupid when it comes to this stuff. OR would I run 1 AMP with Both speakers running into it?

both subs would run off the amp bridged @ 1 ohm mono (2000++ watts RMS).

The amp will be bridged and the subs will be wired in series.
