OK89 is on the right path. EVERY component in an audio system makes a differance. From cable to connectors , to HU. What is covering your speaker , what is behind it what surrounds it. No , not EVERY ONE can pick up on the differance , but that does not mean that the differance is not there.

whats an HU?

while on the topic of SQ......my current system is listed below. you can very well see that it is more for bass and little SQ lol. im only 18 and dont want my hearing to go before im 21 so ive been thinking of upgrading to a more sq system. i need some suggestions though. i want to sell my box and subs. should i keep my zapco ag350 and run front components off of it (even though it has a high wattage for comps) or should i run 1 10" with the 350 watts of mono? or should i just get rid of it and start fresh?

Just out of curiousity who makes some of the best HUs in terms of sound quality.

Denon.

but look to spend over $1000 for their cheapest headunit.

tell me more about this denon. I beleived nakamichi was the best for SQ decks..

two of the new models are:

Denon DCT-Z1
24bit Alpha Processing Plus, Copper plated chassis, pure silver braided RCA cables, brushed titanium gray/silver faceplate. 115dB signal to noise on CD's. the Z1 can operate fully balanced, with an Output Voltage of 8V.

The Denon DCT-R1
Black anodized aluminum faceplate. Quality 24 bit D/A converter, four-channel power(12.5Wx4 at 4Ohms), and this power is defeatable, so you can use an external amp of course. All tone controls on both units are also defeatable. The RCA Pre Output Voltage on the R1 is 3V. Later this spring, the R1 will also be available in an exclusive limited edition version with the brushed titanium face and copper plated chassis

Keep the Zapco!!!

i think the DCT-Z1 is about $1400.00 and the DCT-R1 is about $1100.00

Is there a website where I can look at these Denon Headunits?

BTW Lee your some sort of audio god aren't you? Its ok I won't tell anyone :D

I'll answer for him - Yes. Yes he is :D

www.denon.com is supposedly the website. I did some research (or tried to) and found that apparently they are a much larger scale operation on the basis of home and prof. audio. I didn't see anything on their headunits.. however I found a car on sounddomain that had one.. it looked relaly plain jane.. I must say I'm suspicious.. need more info! :)

Lee posted a picture of one awhile ago, they are pretty basic. They aren't designed for looks, but just for supreme SQ

here's the DCT-Z1
it doesnt have all kinds of cool 3D graphics, but i think it looks a lot better than a Nakamichi.

Dead Link Removed

thats cool, that doesn't look plain to me.. looks good.. guess I need to add one to my "audio components that you'll never have" list lol

ok heres what i'd get.... not too off the wall...
Head unit - Clarion Auto PC
Mids and Highs - Focal Components
Subs - Memphis, ah i can't remember the name, they are the orange ones that are like double piston drivers, they are like 1 1/2 feet tall...bad a$$
Amps- Probably all Presion Power
Video- 2 Clarion 7inch Video Screens
plus all top of the line other little things wires, and such.
