While swapping out the turn-signal mechanism I set off the alarm. I had not even gotten to removing the part, only had begun removing the steering-wheel collar, when I set off the alarm. I have done this several times in the past and the alarm has never gone off. I disconnected the battery and even after a significant wait the alarm returns as soon as I connect it. The Ford dealer said that I have caused the car to go into "Theft" mode and I have to tow it in so that they can re-set the IDS. Any suggestions or solutions as I can't even start the vehicle.

Duh...
Just tried my key in the door and that salved the problem. Doesn't say much for the dealers knowledge!

My experience has been that the "dealer's knowledge" for the service writers is to get us to bring the truck in so they can hand us a big bill.

I've haven't been near a dealer in many years.
