Help ASAP please!!!

Hi I got a starting problem with my 94 eddie. When I turn the key I just get a click from the solenoid. So I replaced it today I get the same thing!!!! I dont know what else it could be please help. Thank you for any input.

try jumping the solenoid. if that don't work it's the starter or motor is locked up. Vic

how do I check to see if my motor is locked up? It was just running like 3 days ago.

yeah i ran into the same thing, tap your starter with a heavy object if it starts. you need a starter and dont wait and wait and keep tapping, because it will leave you in a badddddd spot

I agree. Same thing happened on mine and it was a bad cable, even though it looked good.

I would test the battery first before spending too much more money. The cause could be a bad battery as well.

As a starter gets old the electrical contacts inside start to get "loose" and prevent the starter from working. Tapping the Starter with a rubber hammer can help the electrical contacts in side make better contact by jarring them together.. If this is the case you will need to replace your starter as the problem will only get worse and eventually leave you stranded..

Possible solution

Try checking the small power wire running from the solenoid to the starter. I had a new starter but was having the same problem, just a clicking sound. The old starter was fried, but the reason the new one wasnt working is that small power wire was melted in several spots and even though it was still intact, it was still enough to stop the vehicle from starting. I was broke down in the autozone parking lot luckily. Does anyone know where to buy a new set of wires for the starter/solenoid? its the wires that connect inside the rubber block?? I was stranded so i just bought a small roll of automotive wire and cut the rubber in half and ran the new wire, and i havent had any problems yet, but ya never know. so if anyone knows where to get the new wire set from please let me know. thanks and maybe this will fix your problem too.

Take out the starter, and bench test it. This will rule out the possibility of any faulty wiring in the vehicle.

I had a similar problem. Lights and accessories OK, but no start. Turned out to be the battery cable: a high resistance where the big red wire is bonded inside the lead battery connector lug.

I could get it started by feeding powr to the starter through a jumper cable. I connected the cable from battery (+) to starter motor, and it cranked right over.

I ended ip replacing the battery cable. The new cable comes with both rd wires: the heavy current feed to the starter and the smaller wire for the solenoid.

It's a good idea to use anti oxidant on these high current cables, and battery terminals to help prevent rust.

I also had this problem once and it was the wire bullinerfamily mentioned, if the small red wire is damaged or like in my case was slopplily spliced, it will not start, I believe if you buy an aftermarket starter, they sometimes give you a piece of wire with a ring terminal, (because of this problem), all I did was clean and resplice the wire, and it started right up and has ever since.
